Season Announcement: Role Debut in UK Premiere of Le Cid

Leonardo Capalbo will make his role debut as the title character in Massenet’s Le Cid at the Dorset Opera Festival this summer. This marks the UK stage premiere of the french rarity. Le Cid tells the story of Rodrigue, a knight in the medieval Spanish court, who is forced to defend his family’s honor by taking the life of the father of his betrothed. Known primarily to modern audiences for its ballet music, the work features the show-stopping tenor aria “Ô souverain, ô juge, ô père.”

Performances run July 24, 26 & 28, 2018

Leonardo adds Rodrigue to his existing french repertoire of Don José in Carmen, the titles roles in Les contes d’Hoffmann, Faust, and Roméo et Juliette, as well as his forthcoming debuts as Werther and Don Carlos.
