Season Announcement: Leonardo Capalbo Returns to Teatro Real in 2020
Leonardo Capalbo Stars in Mascagni’s Iris at Teatro Real
The 2019-2020 season sees Leonardo Capalbo return to the Teatro Real as Osaka in Mascagni’s rarely heard Iris alongside Ermonela Jaho, conducted by Evelino Pidò. Capalbo debuted at the Teatro Real as Mario Ruoppolo in the Spanish premiere of Daniel Catàn’s Il Postino. Last season he starred as Essex in Britten’s Gloriana of which Operawire called him “a tenor on the rise” and “a star in the making.” Platea magazine praised him as “extremely convincing, striking in his performance, and vocally polished.”
With his debut as Osaka (Iris), Capalbo continues to expand his lirico spinto repertoire joining other forthcoming role debuts of Don Carlo (Don Carlo), Pollione (Norma), and Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly), a role he will debut in the 2020-2021 season.
