Leonardo Capalbo Makes Calgary Opera Debut
Leonardo Capalbo Stars as the Duke of Mantua at Calgary Opera
Leonardo Capalbo stars as the Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto in his Calgary Opera debut on April 6th. Capalbo is widely acclaimed is the role having previously performed it at L’Opéra de Montreal, Oper Leipzig, L’Opéra de Toulon, Teatro Municipal de São Paulo, North Carolina Opera, L’Opéra de Wallonie, and most recently this season at the Royal Swedish Opera of which the Svenska Dagbladet praised him as “both vocally and dramatically a sultry and fiery Duke.”
Verdian roles continue to comprise the majority of Capalbo’s repertoire. Later this summer Capalbo makes his role and house debuts as the title character in Verdi’s Don Carlo at Grange Park Opera in the four-act Italian version of the opera. Future seasons include his debut in the five-act French version of Don Carlos and performances of Verdi’s Requiem.
Performances of Rigoletto at Calgary Opera run April 6, 10 & 12th at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
