Season Announcement: Role Debut in Madama Butterfly

Leonardo Capalbo will make his debut as Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly during the 2020-2021 Season.

The Opéra National du Rhin announced today their 2020-2021 Season. Leonardo Capalbo will make his role debut in a new production of Puccini’s Madama Butterfly by Mariano Pensotti. The cast also includes Brigitta Kele as the title character, Tassis Christoyannis as Sharpless, and Marie Karall as Suzuki, with Giuliano Carella conducting.

Capalbo is a noted interpreter of Puccini roles including Cavaradossi, Rodolfo, Ruggiero, Luigi (Il tabarro), and Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi). Of his performances as Cavaradossi, Opera News wrote “his radiant tenor and clarion top made for an uncommonly ardent and engaging Cavaradossi. His cries of ‘Vittoria!’ were breath-stopping; his ‘Recondita armonia’ was an irresistible paean to eros” 

Performances of Madama Butterfly at L’Opéra National du Rhin run from June 18 to July 6, 2021 in Strasbourg and Mulhouse, France.
