Leonardo Capalbo Sings Hoffmann at Musikfest Bremen
Leonardo Capalbo begins his 2018-2019 season as the title character in Les contes d’Hoffmann at Musikfest Bremen on September 1. He stars alongside side soprano Jessica Pratt singing the four heroines as they are led by conductor Marc Minkowski.
Leonardo first debuted Hoffman to critical acclaim in the Laurent Pelly production at L’Opéra de Lyon conducted by Kazushi Ono. In 2016, he sang Hoffmann at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in the final performances of the famed Schlesinger production originally created for Placido Domingo.
Of those performances Mark Pullinger praised Leonardo Capalbo’s “beautifully honeyed, lyric sound suiting the young Hoffmann's naive innocence as he is duped into falling for Spalanzani's doll. He rose to the challenge of the Hoffmann-Antonia duet splendidly, matching Sonya Yoncheva for spirit and passion.”
Leonardo's season continues with new productions of La rondine and Rigoletto this fall.
